NAGAON: The Nagaon district unit of All Assam Journalists’ Union (AAJU) and the Kathiatoli Press Club jointly organized a memorial lecture in honour of Late Journalist Homeswar Hira at the banquet hall of Ma Monosha Bhavan near Kathiatoli Chariali. The programme was chaired by Hareswar Borah, the District President of AAJU while Sofikur Rahman and Muktikam Laskar mentored it.
Gautam Sharma, Executive Editor of Amar Asom, who attended the event as the chief keynote speaker, also spoke at the event, highlighting the challenges faced by rural journalists and the need for them to be financially stable to produce quality journalism. Sarma also went into detail about the present scenario of global journalism across the globe and challenges being faced by the community while addressing the occasion here.
Other speakers, including AAJU State President Pankaj Kumar Nath and senior scribe of Nagaon Kanak Hazarika, also shared their thoughts on the role of journalists in society and the need to maintain the credibility of journalism. The event also saw the felicitation of several individuals, including social worker Madan Bardoilai, and the presentation of awards to journalists and social workers. It’s noteworthy to mention here that after selection for journalist pension and being a victim of COVID 19, Hira and his family is yet to receive any financial assistance or support till date and hence during the event today, the district unit of AAJU offered a little financial aid to the wife of Late Homeswar Hira.
