ABHAYAPURI: "For years the Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) parties have been treating Assam's religious minorities as third-class citizens. The Muslims in the lower Assam areas, especially in char areas were always neglected in all aspects of development by the Congress and Badruddin Ajmal. They were always alienated and their voices were always muted by these two parties. Now it is high time to break this stereotype and move towards development," said the president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora.

The minister also said that in the upcoming 2021 Assam assembly election, the Muslims of Lower Assam char areas must come together and break the alliance of Badruddin Ajmal and the Congress.

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) party on Tuesday organized its 'Jatiya Aikya Convention' at Gandhi Maidan of North Abhayapuri, which was once the home constituency of AGP general secretary and former MLA Bhupen Rai. Nearly 25,000 people were present at the convention where minister Atul Bora took part.

"The new parties formed with Badruddin Ajmal's funding have no nationalism or regionalism motives. Their foremost motive protest in the morning and opportunism at night," Atul Bora said during his speech. He added, "The AGP always welcomes constructive criticism with respect and honor. There are many whose main motto is to just confuse the people and to make the weak and vulnerable. According to these people, AGP workers are quitting the party. However, all these allegations are false and the AGP party will never fall but will always rise and march forward." "For ages, religious minorities were always in favour of the Congress and Badruddin Ajmal. However, they never saw any sign of development. Now is the time for all to march forward, renounce such false parties and join the mainstream and true party (AGP)," minister Atul Bora said during his speech at the convention.

"Only the BJP-AGP alliance government will make your development possible. The AGP party is committed to the development of minorities, especially the religious minorities, while maintaining their dignity," he said. Strongly claiming to form an AGP-BJP alliance government in Dispur again, Bora said that the AGP would continue to demand implementation of Article 6 of the Assam Accord. He claimed that the AGP would win with majority in South Abhyapuri and North Abhyapuri constituencies in the assembly election.

The executive president of the party, Keshab Mahanta, who was overjoyed to see the crowd at the Jatiya Aikya Samaroh, said that AGP was the mainstay of Assam's regionalism. Claiming that the AGP was a safe haven for all, Mahanta reiterated that the AGP had never compromised in the field of secularism and would never do so in the future. "The AGP-BJP alliance will be in power in the coming 2021 elections. Therefore, in the interest of equal development, even the religious minorities should unite with the government," he said. Other senior leaders of the party like minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury and MLA Gunin Das were present at the meeting.
