JAMUGURIHAT: The 89th annual function and youth festival of Jamuguri HSS concluded on Wednesday. The school week of one of the oldest schools of the greater Jamugurihat began on January 5. A series of indoor and outdoor sports events were organized among the students. The 89th annual prize distribution ceremony was held in the school premises with Bhaba Goswami, president of Barechahar Bhaona Committee, in the chair. Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika graced the occasion as a chief guest.

Addressing the session, MLA Hazarika stressed on all-round development of students and importance of value education for a healthy society. He further added that the success of an educational institution depended on the bond of unity among parents, teachers, students and society. He made a humble appeal to all concerned to work unitedly for the overall development of schools.

MLA Hazarika released the mouthpiece Ankur along with four handwritten magazines. Dr Gautam Kakaty, the head of the department of Assamese, Madhavdev University attended the annual day function as an appointed speaker. Prabhat Chandra Das, the Inspector of Schools graced the event as a distinguished guest. Nitumani Bora, assistant teacher of the school, conducted the proceedings while Jiban Bora, principal of the educational institution, forwarded a welcome address.

Jamuguri HSS will be upgraded as a model school from the next academic session. Primary works in this regard have been accomplished, informed Jiban Bora, principal of Jamuguri HSS.
