DHUBRI: A large flock of migratory birds arrived at Hakama Beel in Bilasipara, while the nearby Mahamaya forest witnessed an increase in population of rare species of white-ramped vulture.
In order to create an awareness about protection of these birds, the Aranya Suraksha Samiti, Assam (ASSA) organized a bird-welcoming festival at Bogribari High School of Dhubri district in collaboration with the school on Tuesday.
Secretary-general of ASSA, Dr. Haricharan Das while speaking in the awareness meeting highlighted the organization’s efforts to conserve the white-ramped vulture.
He claimed that because of the organization's activists' effort and inspiring actions, the number of the aforementioned vulture species in the forest region has increased recently from 26 to 43. Other notable speakers included organising secretary of ASSA, Dhrubo Ranjan Chakraborty, Principal of Bogribari High School, Abdul Rezzak Sheikh, President of Mahamaya Branch of ASSA, Prakritish Saha. All the speakers made a fervaant appeal to the locals and the government to provide protection to migratory birds. The day-long programme also included a painting competition wherein Abhik Chakraborty, Nazirul Islam, and Karan Sha Sonar were adjudged winners as first, second and third respectively.
