DARRANG: Dakshita Ghosh, an 11-year-old karate prodigy from Kharupetia, Darrang district, was honored for her outstanding performance at the 3rd KYU Grade National Karate Championship held in Bengaluru on January 11 and 12.
Dakshita, who holds a black belt in Karate, clinched two gold medals in the under-12 category, winning first place in both the Kata and Kumite competitions. Her impressive achievements have brought pride to her family, Kharupetia, and the entire district.
On Sunday, trainer Tapan Chandra Deka felicitated Dakshita at the Refugee Primary School in Kharupetia. Dakshita, a class 5 student of Mangaldai Maharshi Vidya Mandir, was also congratulated by former MLA of Mangaldai and President of the Mangaldai Sports Association, Gurujyoti Das.
During the ceremony, she was presented with a Phulam Gamuchha as a token of appreciation, and her bright future in the sport was wished by the attendees. Pratap Bardalai, Chairman of Mangaldai Unnayan Parishad, also extended his congratulations to Dakshita for her remarkable achievement.
Meanwhile, the Assam team achieved great success at the 49th Senior National Yogasana Sports Championship held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, from February 13 to 16, winning one silver and two bronze medals.
Madhurjya Sarma and Pranab Changmai from Majuli and Dibrugarh, respectively, earned silver in the men’s rhythmic pair event, while Nikita Konch and Purabi Baishya from Sonitpur secured bronze in the women’s rhythmic pair event.
