HAFLONG: More than hundred people attended the Umrangso Sahasya Sammelan hosted at the Karbi Youth Club by Piramal Foundation on Wednesday at Gunjung Block and on Thursday at Langting block in the office of the All Dimasa Student Union, Maibang.
The participants consisted of local teachers, ASHAs, ASHA supervisors, tribal healers, youth representatives, local NGO representatives, cultural producers from the neighbouring communities who had come to carry out a discussion on community development, celebrate each other’s work, and share challenges so that they could be collaboratively overcome.
The Karuna fellows spoke about their journey so far, and how the fellowship is teaching them new skills and helping them understand leadership and uptake community work. The ANM supervisors, who were attending the event, spoke about how they have been working closely with Gandhi fellows in the past and now are looking forward to working with the Karuna fellows. The ASHAs, during the open discussion, spoke about the challenges that arise while doing community health work and how the fellowship program has been able to provide support to their work. The Block Program Manager, who attended the meeting, elaborated on the interdepartmental synergy that needs to be ensured for holistic development and how the Karuna fellows can be instrumental in carrying out such work that encompasses coming together of health, education, and women’s self help groups for the development of the tribal communities.
