SILCHAR: With vows to dethrone the BJP government in the state, three newly-appointed district presidents of the Congress in the Barak Valley, officially took charge.

Sajal Acharjee, the new Cachar Congress President, was welcomed at the party office amid much enthusiasm amongst the leaders and workers who had visibly withdrawn themselves in the last few years. Acharjee, who was a powerful leader during the regime of former Union Minister Late Santosh Mohan Dev, had virtually distanced himself from all party activities after he developed a rift with Dev's daughter Sushmita Dev when she was the municipality Chairperson. The new state President of the Congress Gaurav Gogoi however picked Acharjee for the hot seat just prior to the ensuing corporation election in Silchar. Acharjee, after taking the charge, said that the new APCC President Gogoi had galvanized the party to such a height that a concerted fight by the Congressmen would definitely dethrone Himanta Biswa Sarma in 2026. He stressed upon utmost unity amongst all the party workers.

Similarly in Sribhumi, the new district President Tapas Purkayastha vowed to reorganize the party with the single motive of defeating the BJP government in the state. The Congress in Assam under the leadership of Gogoi had all the strength and potential to form the next government, he added.

In Hailakandi too, the new district President Ishaque Ali Barbhuiya criticized the BJP government for playing dirty politics in the name of religion. Maintaining that the people were frustrated with the politics of beef and pork and desperately needed a change in power, Barbhuiya said that only the Congress could be the alternative to steer the state out of this communal politics.
