Assam: 3 youths arrested for beating up suspected thief in Silchar

SILCHAR: Silchar Rangirkhari Police arrested three youths for mercilessly beating a person they suspected to be a thief in open public view. The three youths, identified as Manna Chanda, Palash Das, and Swarup Chanda, all local residents of Uttar Krishnapur area of Silchar town, first tied the suspected thief to a vehicle and then started beating him with sticks and brooms. A few more persons also joined them alleging that the suspected thief had stolen a mobile phone from a residence at Second Link Road. Local residents alleged that burglary had become a daily problem in their locality, but no action had been taken so far.

Meanwhile, Rangirkhari Police, being alarmed, arrived at the spot and rescued the suspected thief who was in a serious condition following the mass beating. Later, police picked up the three youths. More persons would be picked up, a police source hinted.
