MANGALDAI: In a significant development for clearing the deck to set up the proposed Medical College at Mangaldai as per the assurance of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Governor of Assam has accorded the approval for initiation of de - reservation proceedings under Rule 95- A of Assam Land Revenue Rules,1886 of Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) land measuring 108 bigha 4 katha 11 lecha covered by Dag No 115 (Part) and 17 bigha 4 katha 4 lecha covered by Dag No. 50 (Part) of village Kamarpara under Rangamati Mouza of Mangaldai Revenue Circle amounting to a total area of 146 bigha 1 katha and 1 lecha for subsequent allotment of the land in favour of Medical College and Nursing and Para Medical College at Mangaldai. Equal quantum of government land will be reserved at village No. 2 Hetou Chapori and village No. 2 Chaulkhowa under Rangamati Mouza of Pub Mangaldai Revenue Circle in lieu of the aforesaid de-reservation of VGR land. Joint Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management (Survey and Settlement) department Dipankar Deka, vide eCF No. 552970/2024/38 dated December 7, has communicated this order to the District Commissioner of Darrang.
Mention may be made here that Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia and Mangaldai legislator Basanta Das have been taking a bold initiative for the setting up of the proposed medical college at Mangaldai, and accordingly the Chief Minister had announced the government’s decision to approve the demand raised by Dilip Saikia and Basanta Das.
Talking to ‘The Sentinel’ this evening, highly delighted legislator Das expressed his gratitude and thanks to the Chief Minister on behalf of the people of Darrang district, particularly of Mangaldai. He also hoped that the Chief Minister would lay the foundation of the proposed medical college at Mangaldai within a short period.
