BOKAKHAT: The 35th edition of the Kaziranga Kohora Basanta Festival was held on Wednesday at Alipukhuri in central Kaziranga. The festival aimed to develop and promote local youth and traditional crafts and showcase Kaziranga’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Both domestic and international tourists took part in the festival, which is becoming a symbol of the colourful Assamese arts and culture, crossing boundaries of caste, religion, and community.
From the beginning, the Kohora Spring Festival Organizing Committee has been working tirelessly to preserve the memories of the region. As a part of the inaugural events, a grand cultural procession was held, including groups adorned in traditional Assamese attire. Renowned journalist and cultural figure Nilkamal Saikia inaugurated the event. He remarked that such festivals are the essence of Assamese life. Groups such as Bihu, Jhumur, Mukoli Bihu, and Bengali cultural troupes and various student groups from Kaziranga’s educational institutions, as well as tourists participated enthusiastically. The cultural procession attracted a large crowd.
As a part of the Kohua Spring Festival, various competitions and performances were held, including music, dance, drawing, and crafts by students and youth. Winners will be awarded at the end of the festival. According to the organizers, the festival’s concluding day will also host a national-level seminar and a major cultural competition.
