BOKAKHAT: Extensive preparations are underway to celebrate the Bokakhat Central Spring Festival on the 29th, 30th, and 31st of Bohag (May 13, 14, and 15) with a vibrant and elaborate programme. On Monday, at the Bokakhat Central Bihutoli premises, the festival’s organizing committee conducted the flag hoisting ceremony, led by the committee’s lifetime advisors Gopikananda Saikia and Khagen Bora. The ceremonial flag was hoisted in the presence of all committee officials, following traditional lamp lighting and blessings from the elders.
Jointly organized by Bokakhat Station Club, Sammilit Yuva Sangha, Madhya Bokakhat Bihu Sanmilan, Nagarik Kalyan Samiti, and Central Bihu Sanmilan, this year’s Central Spring Festival also coincides with the grand Golden Jubilee celebration of the Station Club’s Stage Bihu.
The festivities will begin on May 13 (29 Bohag) at 9:00 AM with the hoisting of the main festival flag along with 50 additional flags. This will be followed by a tribute to departed souls, and at 10:00 AM, a grand cultural procession showcasing the heritage of around 25 ethnic communities will take place. At 11:00 AM, certificates will be distributed to participants of the previously held Bihu dance and dhol drumming workshops.
At 3:00 PM, competitions for Huchori, Mou-Bihuwoti, and Namdoyang Bihurani 2025 will be officially inaugurated, open to participants from across Assam.
On the second day, May 14 (30 Bohag), a marathon competition for boys and girls from Golaghat district will start at 5:00 AM. At 10:00 AM, a fancy dress competition for children will be held. At 11:00 AM, a special women’s event along with competitions in traditional attire and floral arrangements will take place for women from Golaghat district. At 3:00 PM, a friendly interactive session will be held with former committee members and distinguished citizens of Bokakhat. At 7:00 PM, the first cultural evening will feature performances by local and invited artists, with popular singer Astha Zita as the headliner.
On the final day, May 15 (31 Bohag), starting at 10:00 AM, solo and group creative dance competitions based on selected Assamese songs will be held for Golaghat district participants. At 5:00 PM, a commemorative souvenir in honour of the Golden Jubilee will be released, followed by an award distribution ceremony.
At 7:00 PM, the grand cultural evening will be headlined by popular Assamese singer Neel Akash’s Musical Tribute. Winners of the Huchori, Mou-Bihuwoti, and Namdoyang Bihurani competitions will also perform their winning Bihu presentations.
