KOKRAJHAR: In a significant move towards empowering persons with disabilities (Divyangjan), a large-scale distribution of aids and assistive devices was carried out on Thursday at Science College Auditorium, Kokrajhar. The programme was organized by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a Government of India enterprise, under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The event was conducted in collaboration with the district administration and the Women & Child Development Department, Kokrajhar.
A total of 566 beneficiaries, including 374 males and 192 females, received aids and appliances during the distribution programme. Altogether, 1,098 appliances worth Rs 47.63 lakh were distributed under the CSR and ADIP schemes. The assessment for identifying eligible beneficiaries was carried out from November 26 to 30, 2024. The wide range of distributed devices included tricycles, motorized tricycles, wheelchairs, CP chairs, walking sticks, crutches, rollators, hearing aids, Braille kits, smartphones, sugamya canes, and TLM kits. These appliances were carefully selected to cater to the specific needs of individuals across different categories of disabilities.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest of the programme District Commissioner Masanda M Pertin expressed her gratitude to all those present for their participation in the meaningful event. She extended her heartfelt thanks to the officials of IRCTC for supporting the cause through their CSR initiative and appreciated ALIMCO for their dedicated efforts in implementing the scheme effectively.
DC Masanda Pertin lauded the initiative as a significant step towards inclusivity and empowerment, and conveyed her best wishes to all the beneficiaries. She remarked that the aids and assistive devices would bring much-needed relief to persons with physical challenges, enabling them to lead more independent and dignified lives.
The event was also attended by ADC Kabita Deka, Villie Zunichu, Executive, IRCTC, Pentan Kshetri, Supervisor, IRCTC, Sanjiv Kr Hayoary, Marketing Officer, DSWO, Jintu Moni Phukan, WCD officials, CDPOs, and supervisors among others.
