NAGAON: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad, Nagaon district committee, staged a three-hour sit-in protest at Nagaon on Wednesday.
The protest was organized in demand of implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Assam and to condemn the recent directives issued by the Assam Government under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The protesters, led by the district committee’s President, Prabal Sarma, and General Secretary, Hemanta Das, demanded that the Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, refrain from dividing the people of the state on the basis of religion. They also demanded the implementation of the Assam Accord, updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and the scrapping of the CAA.
The protesters raised various slogans such as ‘Implement ILP in Assam,’ ‘We reject CAA,’ ‘Stop granting citizenship on the basis of religion,’ etc.
The sit-in protest was attended by several district leaders as well as the central committee of the youth organization including Pragjyotish Bonia, Gitartha Das, Devashish Das, and other leaders and office bearers of Anchalik units of the organization.
