KOKRAJHAR: An all-party delegation from the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA), led by Speaker Biswajit Daimary, visited the BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) Secretariat today. The 12-member delegation participated in a high-level meeting with the BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, BTC Legislative Assembly Speaker Kathiram Boro, executive members, and officials.

The meeting primarily focused on various development projects undertaken in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), with a detailed presentation showcasing the progress and plans. Discussions were also held regarding the upcoming budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, scheduled to take place in February 2025 at the BTC Assembly. The meeting deliberated on logistical and administrative preparations required for hosting the session in BTC.

Addressing the media persons after the meeting, Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary said that the delegation received a comprehensive briefing on the functioning of the BTC and its ongoing development projects. He emphasized the importance of holding the state’s budget session in BTC, noting the region’s increasing significance in Assam’s legislative and administrative landscape. He expressed confidence in the smooth coordination between the Assam government and BTC authorities for the successful conduct of the session.

BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro assured full cooperation from the BTC administration and welcomed the initiative. Terming the state’s assembly session at BTC Assembly to be a historic event, he highlighted that the session would further strengthen the bond between the Assam government and the BTC region, fostering greater development and collaboration.

The all-party delegation also visited Digli in Bishmuri to oversee the proposed road development projects from the National Highway-31 to Saralpara along the Bhutan border via Ultapani, which connects Sarpang town of Bhutan. The road has been in a dilapidated state for a long time, which snaps the plying vehicles from Bhutan to India, other than Indian travellers to Saralpara. The delegation left Chirang to supervise the proposed development of the road from National Highway-31 at Samthaibari to Gelephu (Bhutan) via Runikhata and the ongoing construction of the road from Chapaguri to Malivita along the Bhutan border under the Assam-Mala project. The state’s delegation team was accompanied by BTC Speaker Kathiram Boro and MLAs of Kokrajhar and Chirang-Lawrence Islary, Jiron Basumatary, and Nirmal Kr Brahma.
