BISWANATH CHARIALI: BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) candidates won all the seats in the Assembly election in the three legislative Assembly constituencies under the Biswanath district. APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Ripun Bora was defeated at his home constituency Gohpur.

In Biswanath, BJP candidate Pramod Borthakur defeated his nearest rival Anjan Borah of Congress by a margin of 10,212 votes. Pramod Borthakur got a total of 71,201 votes while Anjan Borah managed to secure 61,991 votes. In 77 Behali LAC, BJP candidate and State Handloom and Textile Minister Ranjit Dutta defeated his nearest rival Independent candidate Jayanta Borah by a margin of 29,718 votes. Ranjit Dutta secured 53,335 votes while Jayanta Borah got 23,617 votes.

On the other hand, is a major setback to the Congress-led grand alliance, BJP candidate Utpal Borah defeated his nearest rival APCC president Ripun Bora by a margin of 29,294 votes in Gohpur. Utpal Borah managed to secure 93,224 votes while Ripun Bora got 63930 votes. The newly formed AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) could not make any impact upon the voters in the district.
