KOKRAJHAR: An awareness programme on drug abuse was organized on Saturday at U.N. Academy, Kokrajhar, drawing active participation from nearly 200 students of classes IX and X. The event was a part of ongoing efforts to sensitize young minds about the harmful consequences of substance abuse and to promote a drug-free lifestyle among adolescents.
The programme featured insightful sessions by esteemed resource persons, including Dr. Wasim Akhtar Bari, DHM, Kokrajhar Cancer Hospital; Udangshri Basumatary, Clinical Psychologist, KMCH; and Gargi Muchahary, Programme Officer, Bodoland Community Counselling Centre (BCCC), Kokrajhar. The speakers shed light on the psychological, physical, and social impacts of drug addiction, stressing its adverse effects on academic performance, mental health, and personal development.
Through interactive discussions, the experts encouraged students to adopt healthy coping mechanisms and resist peer pressure. Practical strategies were shared to help them make informed choices and avoid the pitfalls of addiction.
The programme concluded with an engaging Q&A session where students voiced their thoughts, questions, and personal reflections. Their enthusiastic participation highlighted the effectiveness and relevance of the initiative.
