Pathsala: In a successful operation, police in Bajali arrested six individuals belonging to an international bike theft gang operating across Assam and Meghalaya.
According to police sources, one of the key accused — a youth from Assam — had been residing in Meghalaya after marrying a local woman. Using Meghalaya as his hideout, he was actively involved in selling stolen bikes from various parts of Assam in different locations across Meghalaya after altering their registration number plates.
In a press meet, Bajali Superintendent of Police Ajagwran Basumatary and Additional SP Trinayan Bhuyan informed that the accused were part of an organized gang involved in stealing bikes from Assam and transporting them to Meghalaya and even other countries for resale.
The six arrested have been identified as Nayan Deka, Dhanjit Boro, Sanjay Boro, Lokman Boro, Ratan Boro, and Nirmal Kalita. During the operations, Bajali Police recovered three stolen bike parts, new locks, duplicate keys, and Meghalaya registration number plates from the residence of accused Lokman Boro at Baganpara in Baksa district. Additionally, three stolen Yamaha FZ motorcycles have been recovered.
Police believe that the arrest of the mastermind, currently hiding in Meghalaya, will unravel many more sensational details related to bike theft cases across Assam. Further investigation is ongoing, and Bajali Police have intensified their operations against this racket. More arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days.
