SHILLONG: Syed Md A Razi, the Principal Secretary of Meghalaya, was discovered dead in his hotel room in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, on Monday. Razi, an officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), had been on a private visit to the Central Asian country since April 4.
His body was found after hotel workers opened his room door forcibly when he failed to respond to calls on Monday morning. Early reports show that Razi might have died from cardiac arrest.
The news of Razi's untimely demise has prompted an outpouring of tributes from leaders across Meghalaya. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed profound sorrow over the loss, highlighting Razi's efficiency, dedication, and warm personality. CM Sangma noted that Razi's absence would leave a significant void in the state's administration.
Former cabinet minister James K Sangma also offered his condolences, remembering when they were together while working when Razi was Commissioner Secretary during his time as Forest Minister.
While the state is grieving, formalities are being done to bring Razi's body back home. His wife is already on her way to Bukhara to make the arrangements. The investigation into the cause of his death is ongoing, and more information is awaited as authorities strive to shed light on the matter.
