Assam: BJP-AGP finalize seat sharing in Cachar for Panchayat election

For the upcoming Panchayat election in Cachar, the ruling alliance finalized seat sharing with BJP contesting 23 Zila Parishad seats and AGP 2 seats.

SILCHAR: The ruling party alliance finalized the seat sharing in Cachar for the ensuing Panchayat election. Out of 25 Zila Parishad seats, the BJP would contest in 23 while in the remaining 2 seats, the AGP would field its candidates. On the other hand, the BJP would contest in 147 Anchalik Parishad seats while in the remaining 15 AP seats, the AGP would field its candidates.

After the controversial Panchayat delimitation, Sonai in Cachar was the only Assembly constituency with Muslim majority. Out of the four Zila Parishad seats in Sonai, the AGP would contest in two seats while in the remaining two seats, the BJP would field its candidates. Rupam Saha, Cachar BJP District President, said that in the Panchayat election, the Congress would be reduced to an irrelevant political force in Cachar.

The district BJP has already sent its panel of aspirants for the Zila Parishad seats to the state committee and the names of the candidates would be declared on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Minister Krishnendu Paul, party In-Charge for Cachar, was seen having discussions with the district leaders almost daily. Paul was confident of an excellent result in the Panchayat election throughout the state as he said that the people of Assam could feel the overall development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
