SIVASAGAR: A serious health hazard has emerged for the residents of ONGC’s residential colony in Sivasagar town, which houses approximately 3,000 people. A recent inspection by the ONGC Management Committee revealed that drains along both sides of the newly constructed BG Road, located outside the colony, are fully choked with debris, causing water to stagnate. This blockage has disrupted the drainage of wastewater from the colony to municipal drains, leading to unsanitary living conditions.
The issue has been compounded by the actions of local shopkeepers who have reportedly covered parts of the drains, further impeding the free flow of water. The stagnant water poses significant health risks.
Capt SK Sangwan, General Manager (HR) of ONGC Assam Asset, Nazira, today called on the Sivasagar Municipal Board to urgently address the issue. In a formal request, he urged the board to prioritize cleaning the main drains along BG Road, stretching from the ONGC colony to Station Chariali, to safeguard the health of the residents.
