KOKRAJHAR: In a landmark announcement on the occasion of Bodoland University’s 16th Foundation Day, which coincides with the National Science Day, the Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University (BU) Prof BL Ahuja, declared the creation of the Bodoland Science Congress Association (BSCA) in the presence of BTR Chief Promod Boro, President of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) Dr Surath Narzary, and other invited dignitaries on Friday.
During this event, Prof Ahuja presented a SWOT analysis of Bodoland University, highlighting both its strengths and challenges. He pointed out that, out of the 60 affiliated colleges in Bodoland, very few have science streams emphasizing the importance of strengthening science and technology education in the region. He further stated that the Bodoland Science Congress Association will be a non-political organization, serving as a platform for academicians, students, and researchers to engage in scientific discourse and innovation.
Prof Sanjay Basumatary, Head of the Department of Chemistry and an eminent scientist listed among the top 2% most-cited scientists globally, has been nominated as the first President of the Association. With this initiative, Bodoland University reaffirms its commitment to making BTR a hub for scientific research and innovation, strengthening the region’s role in the scientific community of Assam and India.
Meanwhile, the Aryabhatta Science Centre, Kokrajhar, Assam Science Society, Kokrajhar Branch, and Kokrajhar Planetarium jointly organized the National Science Day 2025 on the theme ‘Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat’ in the premises of Kokrajhar Planetarium, Dimalgaon on Friday with a day-long colourful programme. Khanindra Nath Brahma, Retd A/T Dotma HS School and President of Assam Science Society, Kokrajhar Branch, inaugurated the programme and science quiz competition.
Chakramani Brahma, District Coordinator, Aryabhatta Science Centre, Kokrajhar, explained about the celebration of Science Day and its significance. Anjaliee Basumatary, Retd HoD, Dept of Physics, Kokrajhar Government College and Dr Leeladhar Chauhan, Asst Prof Dept of Physics, Kokrajhar Government College, acted as resource persons and explained the significance behind the National Science Day celebration and this year’s theme with the help of a projector and interacted with the participating students. Supriya Brahma, CHD, Dept of Museum & Archaeology, BTR, delivered the welcome address in the programme of the day. Bibi Prasad Brahma, Asst Teacher, Harinaguri High School, acted as the Quiz Master.
In the science quiz competition among 12 schools of Kokrajhar and Chirang District, the following students showed their proficiency and secured prizes:
The 1st prize went to Rahul Acharya, Jarimin Brahma, and Bikash Chetry of Harinaguri High School, 2nd prize to Antara Chakrabarty, Bikram Dutta, and Arpita Saha of DN Himatsingha High School while the 3rd prize went to Tanaya Chakrabarty, Laxmi Nunia, and Rajesh Mahanta Adhikary of Tengapara High School.
