DIGBOI: A tragic incident, involving the unwarranted death of a father riding with his eighteen-month-old son on bicycle, has cast a pall of gloom over the area in and around the Powai TE Garden area here on Friday afternoon. The incident happened at Nagapara Division of Powai Tea Estate under Digboi Police Station in Tinsukia district.

The deceased, identified as Lakhinder Hadsa (28 years) was returning home with his minor son after getting him breastfed by the mother engaged in tea garden work away from her Nagapara-based temporary residence within the garden area. The corpse was found floating in a small rivulet passing through a culvert while the minor was found unhurt along the road near the culvert. However, the bicycle he was riding was found lying close by. The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

Whether or not the Powai TE Garden management has offered lactation centres for the mother and the baby in the extensive garden area is yet to be ascertained. Government and labour law compliance is mandatory for the proper feeding of a child and to ensure good health of a mother after long working hours and physically demanding tasks. The police investigation was afoot till the filling of this report.
