Assam: Book 'Nakshatra-r Puhoror Xandhanat' Inaugurated in Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: Roonie Wahab’s offbeat book ‘Nakshatra-r Puhoror Xandhanat’, a compilation of articles of a few renowned personalities in the field of art, literature, and culture of Assam, was inaugurated at a solemn function held at Doomdooma Satodal Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSSXX) Bhavan on Sunday.

The meeting presided over by senior journalist Dhiren Deka began with a borgeet presented by Kakoli Kalita. Prior to inauguration of the book, writer Roonie Wahab, who belongs to a prominent sports family of the town and lives in Bengaluru now, narrated the circumstances that led her to write about those personalities whom she had come across over the years on different occasions and thankfully acknowledged her husband Moonwar Wahab in whose memory she dedicated the book.

Inaugurating the book, senior journalist Amulya Khataniar spoke about the role of books in spreading knowledge and significantly said that even if a particular book somehow got lost, the knowledge that one acquired from it remained forever.

On the other hand, guest of honour Dr Ranjit Dutta, a leading poet and a former general manager of North-eastern coal fields, Coal India Limited, Margherita, explained at length the interwoven relationship between philosophy and literature and expressed sadness at the declining trend of book reading habits among the new generation. The meeting was anchored by Deben Deka, President, DSSXX, and addressed by Bina Devi Bordoloi, former vice-principal, Doomdooma College, and AIR artist Manoj Dutta, President, Doomdooma Press Club, and Bimala Baruah, former president, DSSXX.

In his presidential speech, Dhiren Deka appreciated the effort of Roonie Wahab in covering various leading personalities in the field of art and culture, especially, her persistence in bringing to light the unheard songs of Sudhakantha Bhupen Hazarika through a social media group known as Bhupen Hazarika Foundation.

The meeting came to an end with an offering of vote of thanks by President, DSSXX Deben Deka and singing of Assam Sangeet ‘ O Mur Apunar Desh.’
