TEZPUR: Tezpur University celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) with enthusiasm and vibrant participation from students, faculty, and staff. The day-long programme began with a soulful sloka recitation, setting a serene and spiritual tone. Participants then joined the national livestream of the Prime Minister’s address, followed by a session on the Common Yoga Protocol, where attendees actively engaged in guided yoga exercises.
Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the significance of yoga as a way of life. He emphasized that this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” underscores the power of a calm and healthy mind in fostering global unity beyond borders.
Prof. Papori Baruah, Head of the Centre for Yoga and Sports Sciences, informed the gathering about the various programmes organised during the two-month-long Mahotsav, including yoga camps for students and children, meditation sessions, a sound healing workshop, an international webinar, and several community outreach initiatives. The event featured cultural performances by schoolchildren and university students, showcasing youth involvement in wellness and traditional practices.
A key highlight of the celebration was the release of two significant publications by the Vice Chancellor: Yogmanthan, an e-journal celebrating the essence of yoga, and a book titled Converging Insights in Yoga and Wellbeing, published by Tezpur University. These works combine academic research with practical approaches to yoga and mental wellness.
