Assam: Union Minister Pabitra Margherita reviews gas leak site

SIVASAGAR: Union Minister Pabitra Margherita on Saturday visited the gas leak site of ONGC's RDS147(A) at Bhatiapar in Sivasagar to assess the ongoing crisis firsthand.

During his visit, the Minister reviewed the current situation and was briefed on the efforts being made to control the gas discharge. He informed the media that three US experts are continuously engaged in efforts to cap the well using the well-capping method, which is currently underway.

Minister Margherita stressed that the work is being carried out with extreme caution, given the sensitive nature of the operation.

Speaking to media, he remarked that there is no definite timeline as to how long it will take to fully bring the situation under control. Referring to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma's earlier visit to the site, Margherita assured local residents that the government is committed to ensuring no one is deprived of compensation. Sivasagar District Commissioner Aayush Garg accompanied the minister during his visit.
