BONGAIGAON: Dipeswar Barman, the ‘Bir Jawan’ of the Border Security Force (BSF) was given a warm and heartfelt welcome on Friday upon his arrival at his home district Bongaigaon, Assam. Bongaigaon district police, BSF unit of Panbari, Chirang, and several organizations gave him a heroic reception while he reached his native home at Naldoba village under Bidyapur PS of Bongaigaon district after partaking in Operation Sindoor against Pakistan.

Dipeswar Barman is a Constable of 7th Battalion BSF who was posted at RS Pura Indo-Pak Border at Jammu during the time of Operation Sindoor. Depicting his thrilling experience about war against Pakistan, Barman said that they had information about a drone attack on their post.

“It was 10th May and we were ten BSF personnel there including our Post Commander Imtiaz Sir. We had information that a drone attack may occur on our post. At about 4:30 AM, we noticed a drone coming towards us. Cross firing was going on from both sides throughout the night. We immediately took position and fired at it. I also fired a Light Machine Gun and finally, we succeeded to shoot down the drone,” Barman said

“But at about 5 o'clock in the morning, another drone attacked us from another side and bombarded us with grenades. Most of us became injured. Our post Commander Imtiaz Sir became seriously injured. I also got injured on my chest, left arm bicep, and on my right leg by splinters of mortar. But I tightly wrapped my wounds and ran to Sir and tried to take him back to our safe bunker. But I was unable to take him back alone and then a friend helped me and we took him back to the bunker.”

“We communicated the same to our headquarters and after a while an Army ambulance arrived to rescue us. We were taken to 166 Military Hospital at Jammu. I was there for 15 days under treatment. After 15 days of treatment, I was released and now have been sent back to home on medical leave for the next 28 days. Few of our colleagues are still at the hospital and under treatment,” Dipeswar Barman said.

Dipeswar Barman had joined the BSF in the year 2011. Before the posting at Jammu in 2022, he was posted at Guwahati, Coochbihar, and Tripura. The people of Bongaigaon expressed pride for the bravery and courage of Dipeswar Barman.
