KOKRAJHAR: In a major boost to road infrastructure in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), CEM Pramod Boro today laid the foundation stone for the improvement and upgradation of a vital stretch of NH-117A from Kokrajhar to Karigaon.
The project will upgrade the highway from km 24.500 (Kokrajhar) to km 38.947 (Karigaon), covering a total length of 15.247 kilometres. It includes the provision of paved shoulder and surfacing under the Annual Plan for the year 2023–24, to be implemented by the Abhayapuri Construction Division.
Reaffirming the BTR Government’s commitment to strengthening road infrastructure and connectivity in the region, BTC Chief Pramod Boro stated that the substantial allocation for infrastructure in the Vibrant BTR 2.0 Budget, tabled in the BTCLA today, will accelerate road development efforts across the region.
The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by MP Joyanta Basumatary and MLA of Kokrajhar East (ST) Lawrence Islary, EM Gautam Das, MCLA Mantu Boro, and Nominated Member Madhav Chandra Chetri as well as senior PWD officials among others. This project is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity, enhance road safety, and support economic development by enabling more reliable and efficient transport for commuters and goods alike.
