KOKRAJHAR: As malaria takes an ugly turn in Kokrajhar, the government of BTR has taken up prompt action to prevent the further spread of malaria which has claimed lives of five persons including children within a month in Kokrajhar district. Over two thousand people have been tested malaria positive this year till this month and more positive cases are likely to come up. The abnormal detection of malaria cases has caused concern for all in the district.
The BTC authority on Monday reviewed the increasing trend of malaria cases in the district with the department of health services and the district administration. The CEM of BTC Pramod Boro chaired the review meeting and instructed the concerned department and the district administration to take all measures to prevent the spread of malaria. The health centres, community leaders and the general masses have been asked to remain cautious from getting infected.
In a press meet held in Kokrajhar, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro said five persons including children have died so far due to malaria in the district within a month. He said Lumsung forest village had the highest number of malaria cases. He said seven malaria check-up camps would be set up in Lumsung area within two days for a month and there will be a total of 12 malaria check-up camps covering Kachugaon and Dotma. “The department has been instructed to carry out family to family visits for malaria test, collection of blood samples and survey of vulnerable areas,” he said adding that the HANS Foundation was also working together in the health sector and Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) is also joining the campaign. He also said action had already started and a massive test drive was carried out since last month and the results of positive cases have come out for which the authority has taken a prompt initiative. He further said the leaflets were being distributed in local languages. He called upon the villagers to remain alert and follow instructions of the health services.
Boro said the Joint Director of Health Services was directed to act swiftly and supply sufficient medicines for preventing malaria including carrying out massive tests. He said the local pharmacies and ASHA workers were also asked to cooperate. He also asked the health department to issue notices asking people to get tests done and undergo cent percent focus on tests. He also said a committee was formed with the district administration, health services involving secretary of health services, BTC last month to monitor the spread of malaria. He assured 24x7 service for malaria and opening of two special counters especially for malaria besides carrying out blood donation camps to make stock of blood available. He further said awareness in every local language would be taken and democratic organizations of all communities are also instructed to go to villages and alert people in their respective communities as malaria is not at normal level in Kokrajhar.
The press meet was also attended by EM of Health Services Arup Kr. Dey, secretary of health services, BTC Amarjyoti Barman and Kokrajhar DC Masanda Magdalin Pertin.
