Assam: BTR to Honour Bagurumbha Folk Artistes of Republic Day (1955–1986)

KOKRAJHAR: The Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of BTR in association with Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA) and BTR Boro Radio and Television Artistes Association is set to felicitate the folk artistes who presented Bagurumbha dance in the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi from 1955 to 1986, in a significant move to honour them.

 special felicitation ceremony is being organized on May 30 at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar. The felicitation to the folk artistes will underscore the initiatives of the cultural department of BTC to recognize their performances to flourish the rich Bodo culture besides inspiring young artistes of the region.

 Talking to mediapersons in Kokrajhar, MLA Lawrence Islary said that the Government of BTR in collaboration with the DBHA and BTR Radio and Television Artistes Association is going to felicitate and honour the 165 artistes and instrumentalists in a special felicitation programme at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar on May 30. He said that of 165 artistes, 45 have passed away while 120 are still alive. He said that all living folk artistes, instrumentalists, and family members of the artistes who are no more would be felicitated and honoured with Aronai, Endi Shawal, memento, and cash Rs 50,000 each.

Islary said that as many as 12 teams including one from West Bengal presented Bagurumbha dance from 1955 to 1986 and their beautiful performances made spectators overwhelmed and thus Bodo Bagurumbha dance got exposed to a wide range. He also said that BTC Chief Pramod Boro, Minister Ranjeet Dass, President of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) Dr Surath Narzary, EMs, and MLAs will attend the felicitation programme.
