Assam Budget Session 2025 to Begin in Kokhrajhar on February 17

The 2025 Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly has been summoned by the Governor of Assam to commence on February 17 at the BTC Legislative Assembly Chamber in Kokhrajhar.

Guwahati: The 2025 Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly has been summoned by the Governor of Assam to commence on February 17.

Dulal Pegu, the Secretariat of the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat issued the official notification in this regard on Thursday.

According the notification, the opening of the Budget Session will be held at the BTC Legislative Assembly Chamber, making it a first for the session to be held outside of the state capital of Dispur on the first day.

Traditionally, since 1973, all the Budget Sessions have been held at Dispur after it was pronounced the state capital after Assam's separation from Meghalaya.

The first Budget Session was held on March 16, 1973, at the Assam Legislative Assembly Chamber in Dispur which has continued to serve as the venue for all the upcoming Budget Session since that day, until now.

Governor Lakhshman Prasad Acharya will address the opening day of the Budget Session 2025 in Kokhrajhar on February 17. Following that, all the sessions will go back or being conducted in the Assam State Legislative Assembly Chamber in Dispur, as per the official notification.

The Finance Minister of Assam, Ajanta Neog, is set to present the budget for the financial year 2025-26 during this session. It is anticipated that key policy and developmental issues will be discussed in the session which will be fundamental in shaping the agenda.

The opening day of the Budget Session being at Kokhrajhar on February 17 comes as a welcoming step towards inclusivity, marking a new chapter in the history of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
