JAMUGURIHAT: ‘The race which has no language of its own is like a backbone-less race which has no existence in the globe’, this statement was made by eminent litterateur Dr Arupa Patangiya Kalita while releasing the souvenir of Jamuguri HSS as a part of centenary celebration here today.
Addressing the session, eminent writer Dr Patangiya said that we must honour our mother tongue and put our efforts together in uplifting the Assamese medium schools. If we dishonour our mother tongue, then it will become weak and we will lose our culture, heritage, and identity. The souvenir-release function was held with Nitya Borah, former editor of Asomiya Pratidin in the chair. The session was addressed by eminent science writer Dr Khiradhar Baruah who became nostalgic remembering his school days. The session began with a welcome address offered by Principal Jiban Bora. Addressing the session from the chair, Nitya Borah spoke about the role of Jamuguri HSS in providing prospects of literature for the students of the educational institution. Earlier, the centenary celebration was formally inaugurated by Sootea MLA cum President of the Centenary Celebration Committee Padma Hazarika by hoisting the flag. It was followed by the inauguration of the Naren Das memorial entrance gate by MLA Padma Hazarika. The multi-community cultural procession was inaugurated by Pabitra Margherita, Union Minister of State. Inaugurating the cultural procession, the union minister announced a financial grant of rupees eight crores for the development of the school’s infrastructure.
