GUWAHATI: In a significant move, Assam's chief minister has urged all citizens to participate in the global environmental initiative—Earth Hour—by switching off all non-essential lights from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on March 22.

Highlighting the importance of energy conservation and climate action, the chief minister said that even small collective steps, like turning off lights for an hour, can contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions and building a sustainable future. He appealed to households, commercial establishments, and institutions across the state to support this symbolic movement and show their commitment to protecting the planet.

Taking to platform ‘X,’ CM Srama said, “#EarthHour—an hour dedicated to Mother Earth 🌏 Imagine the impact of a global collective effort of switching off lights for an hour—reduced energy consumption, reduced emissions, and a brighter future. Let's switch off all non-essential lights from 8.30 PM to 9.30 PM today and be a part of this global movement.”

Earth Hour, initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), is observed globally to raise awareness about energy consumption and environmental challenges. Every year, millions across the world join hands to turn off lights and send a strong message in support of nature.

The Assam government also encouraged people to share their participation on social media using the hashtag #EarthHour, inspiring more citizens to be a part of this meaningful initiative.
