DHEKIAJULI: In a vibrant celebration of Assam’s rich cultural heritage, a 15-day Bihu dance and Dhol-playing workshop commenced today at the Dhekiajuli Town Lower Primary School. This initiative has been organized by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Dhekiajuli Unit, in collaboration with Saptarshi Folk Art and Culture Academy, Patkai Cultural Group, and the Bihu Artists’ Association, Dhekiajuli Unit.

The inaugural ceremony, held at 3:30 PM on the school premises, was graced by local social worker and former Bihuwa Deven Kalita who officially inaugurated the event. Shankar Das, Advisor of the Dhekiajuli Branch AASU and Education Secretary Sonitpur hosted the ceremony, which saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Kajal Bora, President of Dhekiajuli Central Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee, retired bank officer Dhruva Kumar Bora, retired teacher Bidhubhushan Roy, and former ward member of Dhekiajuli Municipality Board Parul Sharma. Other notable attendees were cultural enthusiasts such as Yogeshwar Mohanta, Bhawani Kalita, Mintu Sharma, and Vice-President of Bihu Artists’ Association Ganesh Deka. The event also witnessed participation from over two hundred community members, reflecting the town’s enthusiasm for preserving and promoting traditional arts.

This workshop is to not only provide training in traditional art forms but also foster community engagement and ensure that the essence of Assamese culture is passed down to future generations.

As preparations for Bohag Bihu are in full swing across the Dhekiajuli Co-District, such initiatives play a crucial role in keeping the cultural fabric vibrant and intact.

The Dhekiajuli workshop stands as a testament to the town’s commitment to cultural enrichment, offering participants a platform to learn and celebrate the traditional Bihu dance and Dhol playing, integral components of Assam’s cultural identity.
