
Hojai: The three day CSIR-sponsored international conference on “Innovations & Impacts: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Sustainable Development Goals” was officially inaugurated at Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai recently. The event was graced by chief guest Prof. Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar, Vice Chancellor of Assam Women’s University, Jorhat.
The inaugural session also featured Padmashree Jadav Payeng as the guest of honour, with Mohan Borah serving as the special guest. Prof. Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University and chief patron of the conference, was present at the event. Other notable attendees included the Deputy Registrar - Dr Shekhar Kanti Sarkar, the Academic Registrar (i/c) - Dr Amar Gautam, faculty members, research scholars, and students of the university.
The conference, which spanned from March 22 to March 24, was co-sponsored by the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission. As part of the event, an Exhibition-Cum-Sale was organized, providing a platform for Self-Help Group (SHG) members from the district to showcase their sustainable products. The exhibition was a popular highlight of the event garnering huge interest and great sales.
The Book of Abstracts was officially launched by Prof. Rajkonwar during the inaugural ceremony. The plenary talk sessions followed, with distinguished speakers such as Prof. Arun Jyoti Nath and Dr. Merry Boruah Bora, Associate Professor at Cotton University, Assam. The first day of the conference concluded with a keynote speech by Dr. Channakesaviah Chikkaputtaiah, Principal Scientist at CSIR, who highlighted key insights into sustainable development.
The conference hosted several international speakers like Prof Shad Ahmed Khan (Oman), Dr Achyut Tiwari (Nepal), Dr Saurav Das (USA), et al. There were eminent speakers, namely Prof Amrit Pal Singh, Prof Ashalata Devi, Prof Ayeapam Ibemcha Chanu, Dr Lalit Mohan Pandey, Dr Rohit Dwivedi, Dr Indu Swami, et al. who enriched the gathering with their valuable insights. In the course of the conference, a good number of papers and posters were presented in a blended mode, stated a press release.
