MANGALDAI: Darrang district has shown a mixed performance in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination results declared on Friday. While the overall pass percentage of the district stood at 72.10%, surpassing the State average of 63.98%, a comparison with the previous years reveals a noticeable decline in success rate.

According to data released by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), Darrang secured the 13th position among all districts in the State in terms of pass percentage. A total of 13,498 candidates from the district appeared in the examination, out of which 3,375 students secured first division, 4,794 passed with second division, and 1,189 managed to clear the exam in the third division.

Speaking to media persons, Ratul Kr Das, the newly appointed Inspector of Schools of Darrang District Circle, acknowledged the dip in performance compared to the last two years. In 2024, the district had recorded a pass percentage of 80.47%, while in 2023, the figure stood at 79.08%.

Notably, private schools in the district fared better in terms of quality results compared to their government-run counterparts, highlighting a disparity in educational outcomes between the two sectors.
