DIBRUGARH: A Rs. 300-crore proposal to construct a modern residential colony for the medical staff at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh has been initiated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Professors, assistant professors, associate professors, and other staff members are going to benefit from this project's replacement of the ageing staff quarters.
During his visit to AMCH on Tuesday, CM Sarma made the announcement while holding a review meeting with Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati, the college's principal. The discussion covered current affairs and future plans for the college and was also attended by MP Rameshwar Teli and MLA Prasanta Phukan.
Dr. Kakati, the principal, was satisfied with the advancements since the Assam CM's last visit in 2022. He said that in order to minimize any disturbance to the staff's work, the residential colony would be built in stages.
After a model of the proposed colony has been approved, construction will begin. CM Sarma vowed to visit AMCH again in January 2026 to evaluate the project's development.
Meanwhile, Mukundananda Chandra Goswami, the Satradhikar of Sri Sri Mayamara Dinjay Satra, is presently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at AMCH. Chief Minister Sarma also instructed Chabua MLA Ponakan Barua to monitor his health during his visit. Additionally, Sarma disclosed funding for Goswami's medical care.
