JAMUGURIHAT: The Eco Club of THB College, Jamugurihat, organized a workshop on Vermicomposting, Solid Waste Management, and Rain Water harvesting, with a day-long programme today. The programme was organized under the Environmental Education Program (EEP), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India and implemented by Assam Science Technology and Environment Council, Government of Assam.
The programme aimed to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among school students and teachers. It was coordinated by Dr Tulshi Upadhyay, Coordinator of Eco Club of the college. The programme began with the inaugural speech by Dr Anju Chetry, Vice-Principal of the college. In her inaugural speech, Dr Chetry emphasized the significance of environmental conservation. The workshop was chaired by Dr Khanjan Kumar Das, Associate Professor of the Department of Assamese of the college.
Dr Ratul Nath, Assistant Professor of Behali Degree College, conducted the workshop on vermicomposting and discussed the concept of vermicomposting, its benefit and material required. The second session was conducted by Bipul Chandra Saikia of the college. In his speech, he explained the importance of solid waste management in educational institutions, homes, and communities. More than ninety students and teachers from various schools of the locality attended the workshop. Manisha Das, Head of the Department of Zoology of the college gave the vote of thanks to all the participants. Participation certificates were also distributed among the students.
