SILCHAR: A 60-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Cachar District and Session court for murdering a minor girl. The brutal incident happened on November 6, 2022 in Dharampur of Cachar’s Joypur area. The 15-year-old girl had gone to a wedding ceremony along with her parents and later she vanished from the venue. Her mother lodged a complaint with the Joypur Police.

During the investigation, the police could gradually find that one Islam Uddin was last seen with the missing girl. Subsequently, the police filed a chargesheet against Islam Uddin accusing him of luring the minor girl to a nearby jungle with bad intention. However the post mortem ruled out any sexual assault on the girl. She was killed with a blow from a blunt object.

The court dropped the rape charge against the accused but finally sentenced him to life imprisonment. The Session Judge on Wednesday sentenced Islam Uddin to life imprisonment for the murder charge with a fine of Rs 10,000. He was further sentenced to seven-year imprisonment for hiding the evidence.
