SIVASAGAR: The newly-completed Harmoti Garh Bridge, constructed under the Uttaran Scheme by the Sivasagar and Demow Territorial Road Division, has successfully connected the two riverbanks between Sivasagar and Gaurisagar. While the bridge has improved local transportation, residents of Gaurisagar have been continuously demanding the expansion of the approach road to ensure a direct connection to the four-lane National Highway (NH37), which would significantly enhance accessibility in the region.

According to Sivasagar District Administration sources, the current approach road on the Gaurisagar side requires strengthening over a stretch of 2.4 kilometers to improve accessibility. As a complementary measure, the expansion of the approach road can be facilitated through available land in the adjoining area. To achieve this, the bridgehead on the Gaurisagar side requires an additional 185 meters of open land to provide direct connectivity to NH37. Of the required land, 155 meters belong to ONGC Limited, while the remaining 30 meters is leasehold land. Notably, the ONGC site in this area, identified as RDS 33, has been officially declared non-operational.

With a view to assess the feasibility of the project, Sivasagar District Commissioner Aayush Garg, along with the Additional District Commissioner (Revenue), Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (Roads), officials from the Sivasagar and Demow Territorial Road Division and the Sivasagar Circle Officer, conducted a joint site inspection on March 26.

During the assessment, the District Commissioner assured that necessary steps would be taken without delay, including land availability assessment, valuation, and survey work to facilitate the expansion of the approach road.
