BOKAKHAT: Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the killing of a tiger at Barbil in Budhe Chapori under the Dusutimukh Gaon Panchayat of Khumtai revenue circle, which falls under the Dergaon Police Station in Golaghat district. They have been presented at the Golaghat Police Station. Among the five, two were arrested by the forest authorities of Golaghat and three by the Dergaon Police.
According to sources, despite an intense operation conducted by the police and army on Thursday night, many of those involved in the tiger killing managed to flee. It is believed that over a hundred individuals were involved in the act. The main case has been handed over to the police by the forest department.
Notably, the Brahmaputra Chapori has become a habitat for tigers and other wild animals that come out of the Kaziranga National Park. The police have refrained from releasing detailed information about the arrested individuals due to ongoing investigations. It is worth mentioning that despite repeated notifications by the Golaghat forest department to the Kaziranga National Park authorities to capture the tiger in a cage, no effective action was taken. This allowed the killing of the tiger. Sources from the forest department have revealed that the tiger had become quite powerful after preying on cattle freely in the Brahmaputra Chapori, which provided the opportunity for the killers to strike on Thursday.
