Assam: Former Tai Ahom Students’ Union district president Bidyut Phokan passes away

NAGAON: Bidyut Phokan, a noted musical instrumentalist and former president of Nagaon district unit of Tai Ahom Students’ Union, breathed his last this morning here after a brief illness.

Phokan was a pioneering figure in the Tai Ahom community and played a crucial role in promoting the culture and traditions of the community. He was a skilled guitarist and had trained numerous students in music. Phokan was also actively involved in various social and cultural activities in Nagaon.

The news of Phokan’s demise has sparked shockwaves throughout Nagaon, with various organizations and individuals expressing their condolences. The Central Committee of the Tai Ahom Students’ Union, Nagaon district unit of the organization, Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad, and various other organizations have mourned the loss of Phokan.

 The Vice-President of the Central Committee of the Tai Ahom Students’ Union Rinku Bora, Education Secretary Hiranya Borphokan, President of the Nagaon district unit of the organization Phanindra Gogoi, General Secretary Ranju Gogoi, President of the Nagaon district unit of All Assam Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad Kirtijit Dhekial Phokan, Secretary Uddipta Gohain, and former General Secretary of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad Kanak Hazarika have expressed their deep condolences over Phokan’s demise.

Phokan is survived by his wife, a daughter, and many relatives and friends. His contributions to the Tai Ahom community and the cultural landscape of Nagaon will be deeply missed.
