Assam: Foundation day of Doomdooma Sakha Lekhika Samaroh Samiti observed

DOOMDOOMA: The foundation Day of Doomdooma Sakha Lekhika Samaroh Samiti (DSLSS) was observed on Wednesday with a day-long programme at its venue at Bir Raghav Moran Path, Rupaisiding.

The programme got underway with hoisting of flag by DSLSS president Indu Dutta Uzir in the  morning. It was followed by Smriti Tarpan initiated by DSLSS vice president, Mira Saikia.

Thereafter, competitions were held among the members  from 10 am onwards on floral decoration and self-composed poetry recitations.

In flower decoration competition, the first prize was won by Jyotsna Buragohain while 2nd,  third and fourth prizes were won by Kakoli Devi Baruah,  Jinu Gohain and Pranalisha Barkakati respectively.

In self-composed poem recitation, the first, second, third and fourth prizes were won by Aparna Senapati, Deepa Dutta Bhajoni, Ranjita Gogoi Baruah and Rekha Gogoi respectively.

The main programme got started with lighting of ceremonial lamp by former DSLSS president, noted poet Dr Aruna Gogoi Baruah. Kakoli Devi Baruah chanted a Sanskrit Sloka while lighting the lamp and made the occasion very solemn. It was followed by chorus ‘Chiro Senehi Mor Bhakha Janoni’ performed by the members.

 President Indu Dutta Uzir then welcomed the guests. Secretary Sangeeta Baruah Deka explained the objectives of the meeting. The 34 th Wall Magazine edited by Tutumoni Moran was released by senior adviser Pranita Handique.

The vice president Sadou Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti (SALSS), central committee, Kironmoyee Hazarika Baruah delivered a speech on founder president DSLSS Bina Deka(now deceased).

Distinguished Litterateur Hema Prova Moran former Headmistress, Kakapather Girls High School,  was felicitated in the meeting for her literary contributions. She dwelt on in detail on the topic, “The past and present of Assamese Literature and its current recognition as classical language.” Noted singer Runumoni Dutta Bhuyan presented a song. In the book inauguration programme at first the souvenir of DSLSS brought out under the editorship of Deepa Dutta Bhajoni was released by Dr Hareswar Dutta. The second book titled ‘Bharat Bhramonor Bakhoruwa Smriti’ written by vice president Mira Saikia was inaugurated by Senior Adviser and poet Manjul Sarma. The third book ‘Archi’ authored jointly by four members - Sangeeta Baruah Deka, Ranjita Gogoi Baruah, Rumi Kalita Gogoi and Rashmi Gogoi was released by Dr Meena Devi Baruah, President, SALSS, Tinsukia District Committee. The fourth one ‘Xobdor Bithika’ - a collection of poems was inaugurated by the President, DSLSS Indu Dutta Uzir.

Finally, the prizes of the essay competition organised by the DSLSS  in memory of late Jaymati Konwar, mother of its member Anju Konwar were given away in the meeting.

The 1st prize was won by Bitu Deka of Kakapathar, second prize was won by Harshita Nandini, Research Student, Krishna Guru University and the third prize was begged by Hirashree Saikia. they were awarded Rs. 5000/-, Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/- in cash and certificates respectively.

The subject committee meeting held previous day i.e. on Tuesday elected a new 21 member executive body with Dibyalata Deka as president, Junu Bora and Purnima Konwar as vice-presidents, Ranjita Gogoi Baruah as general secretary and Archana Bora as treasurer.

The meeting which was anchored by secretary Sangeeta Baruah Deka came to an end after offering vote of thanks by her.
