GAURISAGAR: A free goat vaccination and health check-up camp was organized at Charing Soonatalichiga village under Gaurisagar Development Block in Sivasagar district.The camp was conducted under the initiative of the Integrated Goat Development Association (IGDA ),Assam in collaboration with the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Sivasagar and Mobile Veterinary Service, Assam-1962 .
The camp was formally inaugurated by prominent goat farmer Mohendra Duarah. As many as 150 goats were administered vaccines against enterotoxaemia, along with general health check-ups and distribution of free veterinary medicines. Alongside the camp, an awareness meeting was also held in the premises of the Soonatalichiga Anganwadi Centre. Dr. Rajen Sarma, District Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer (DVO), Sivasagar, addressed the gathering with an informative talk on scientific goat farming practices. He highlighted how rural women can play a vital role in the national economy by adopting goat farming as a livelihood. The awareness programme was graced by Syed Tanvir Haque, General Secretary of IGDA, Assam, as the guest of honour. In his keynote speech, he emphasized the importance of organized efforts in goat farming and outlined future strategies for progress through joint initiatives of the Association and the department. He also stated that Assam Hill goat has much demand in international market but lagging behind due to publicity. Whereas the West Bengal their Black Bengal goat species has earned good marked across the nation due to their publicity in right tract.
