BOKAKHAT: Farmers from various parts of Bokakhat are facing frequent thefts of cows from their cowsheds. On Thursday night, three cows were stolen from a cowshed owned by Dipankar Chetiyar of Lotabari, Bokakhat. The incident occurred late at night and has caused widespread concern. A few days ago, five cows were also stolen from the cowshed of a farmer named Probalish in the nearby village of Kuthengaon.
It is suspected that an organized gang is behind these repeated thefts. Due to the continuous incidents, farmers are living in fear. On May 5, a memorandum was submitted to the Sub-Divisional Officer of Bokakhat, requesting adequate security arrangements for cowsheds. However, despite this, cow theft continues unabated in Bokakhat.
So far, no strict action has been taken against the thieves. As a result, farmers are forced to guard their cowsheds themselves. In a recent incident, three individuals were caught red-handed while attempting to steal a cow, and they were handed over to the police. Locals believe that such thefts have been increasing since January, with more than 10 cows stolen till now.
In response to the situation, the Sub-Divisional Officer has assured action against the culprits. Local organizations have demanded strict punishment and increased patrolling to prevent further thefts.
