Assam: Government now plans to provide free scooters to male students

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has recently declared that the state government is planning to provide free scooters to meritorious male students of the state in the coming days. The announcement was made by the CM in an event held at Majuli where he handed over scooter keys to 121 meritorious girl students of the district.

As per the Chief Minister's statement, the scheme to provide scooters to meritorious male students is planned with the objective of encouraging them to attend regular classes. He also said that such an initiative will help them focus in their studies and ease their access to education.

Notably, the declaration by CM Sonowal comes as a replication of the earlier decision where 22,000 meritorious girl students of the state were awarded with two wheelers by the incumbent BJP state government.

The free provision to the students of the state has been said to facilitate easy and safe transport for girl students who live in remote corners of the state. The scooters have reportedly helped them in accessing their education in their respective schools and colleges.

Referring to this, CM Sonowal said, "In the coming days, our government will launch a similar scheme for the male students also."

As per reports, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had attended a programme at Borduar in Majuli on Tuesday. The announcement of the new scheme for male students came as part of his addressal in the event.

CM Sonowal further urged teachers and parents to motivate their children to ensure qualitative changes in society. "The government can only build schools and college, but teachers and parents will have to shoulder the responsibility to help their wards to become an ideal citizen," the Assam CM said.

Earlier on January 3, the state government awarded free scooters to 948 girl students in Sivasagar.

Reportedly, the Assam CM also laid the foundation stone for a Government Model College in his recent visit to Boduwar.
