HOJAI: Governor Laxman Prasad Acharaya said that patience, perseverance, discipline, and consistency are more vital for a student to excel in life than comfort and amenities. The Governor and Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University said this while speaking at the Second Convocation ceremony of Rabindranath Tagore University held at Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardev Campus (old campus) of RTU in Hojai today. The ceremony began with the singing of the National Anthem and the State song of Assam (O Mur Apunar Desh). The Governor said that Indian culture is of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, so our degrees’ sole objective shouldn’t be limited to obtaining a job through our degree (education). The responsibility of each and every individual should be to contribute in the upliftment of the society thereby empowering our Nation India, said Acharaya.

He added that education is a lifelong continuous process and that one can learn anything at any time. The Governor said that education opens doors for ample opportunities. “Students should be the job creators, who can contribute in the uplift of the Nation,” he added. The Governor said that he is delighted and extremely happy to be a part of the Second Convocation Ceremony of RTU. He said that the patriotic and refreshing environment has satisfied him.

His Excellency said, “Today is a historic day for Rabindranath Tagore University. Convocation is the biggest festival for the students as they are conferred with the degrees for which they have toiled hard for years. The contributions of parents and teachers are also vital and need to be remembered and cherished always. The university being named after legendary poet Rabindranath Tagore makes it a more special and revered place. Now, it is the responsibility of the students to keep the honour and respect of Rabindranath Tagore University.”

The Governor further emphasized on women empowerment. He said that a girl lightens two houses, one at which she is born and the other where she gets married. He said that seeing the girls excelling in every field makes him happy, and quoted ‘betiya aage badhegi, toh hamara desh agae badhegaa.’

Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, graced the occasion as special guest.  While delivering the convocation address, Prof Mahanta highlighted fundamental principles of Tagore’s education philosophy. He said that Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai, will be the torch bearer of the fecund legacy, spirit, and motto of the modern education envisioned by Rabindranath Tagore.

Mahanta added, “RTU is a beacon of light, a symbol of cultural harbinger, a resourceful depositor of knowledge. Today is the day of celebration of the ethos and values of the university and it is the duty of every student to carry forward the same.” He further highlighted in detail the ideology and values of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore.
