NAGAON: A herd of over 100 wild elephants has been creating havoc in larger areas of Kampur as well as Barkola in the district, destroying several hectares of paddy fields and crops for over a couple of days here.
According to sources, the herd of wild elephants has been spotted at Tetelisara, Teliaati, Palasha, and Kacharikhanda areas near Kampur, leaving a trail of destruction. The farmers, who had cultivated paddy in the fields, are now too afraid to even enter the fields.
It’s reported that some farmers who went to the crops field early this morning to harvest their crops were confronted with the herd of the wild elephants. They luckily escaped from the herd. Similarly, the herd wild elephants has also been spotted in Barkola’s Palengtali area, causing widespread damage to crops. Despite the forest department’s efforts to drive the elephants away, they continue to roam the area, leaving the farmers in a state of panic. The farmers urged the forest department to take strong action to protect their crops from the wild elephants.
