SIVASAGAR: In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, Sivasagar Police on Monday seized 10 grams of heroin from a luxury Hyundai vehicle bearing Registration No. AS01EV5188 near Bhatiapar in Sivasagar, acting on a tip-off.
The vehicle was travelling from Jorhat towards Sivasagar when it was intercepted by police. Upon conducting a thorough search, police personnel recovered packets of heroin concealed inside a soap box. The seized substance was tested on the spot and confirmed to be heroin, according to the police.
Two individuals, identified as Parash Bora alias Guddu and Rupam Dey alias Nemu, were found transporting the contraband and were immediately taken into custody.
Police estimate the value of the seized heroin to be around Rs 1 lakh. Both accused are now under interrogation and further investigation is underway.
