DHUBRI: In a significant move against illegal timber processing, forest officials in Dhubri seized an unauthorized band sawmill operating in the Paglahat area on February 25. The operation was part of the ongoing crackdown on deforestation and unauthorized timber activities in the region.

The forest department team, led by Safiqur Rahman, Range Officer of the Forest Check Station Range, and Jibesh Ch Roy, Range Officer of the Protection Squad, Dhubri, swiftly dismantled the sawmill. Acting on a tip-off, officials intervened before further illegal processing of timber could take place.

Authorities have issued a strict warning against individuals involved in illegal sawmill operations and timber smuggling, stating that legal action will be taken against violators. Further investigations are underway to identify those responsible for running the mill.

The seizure marks a significant step in the state’s forest conservation efforts, aligning with broader strategies to combat environmental crimes and protect Assam’s natural resources.

In another similar operation, Dhubri forest authorities launched a major operation against illegal timber processing, seizing two unauthorized band saw mills in Fulerchar, Hatsinghimari, on February 13.

The operation was spearheaded by Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Chakrapani Pani Roy, alongside Forest Ranger Safiqur Rahman of the Forest Check Station Range, Dhubri. The team was reinforced by personnel from the Forest Check Station Range, the Forest Protection Squad, the Special Task Force, and the Hatsinghimari Accounts Beat.
