Assam: International Tea Day celebrated in Biswanath

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Today was International Tea Day and it was celebrated in Biswanath along with the rest of the world. The Federation of Indian Tea Manufacturers’ Association observed the day in association with Assam Bought Leaf Tea Manufacturers’ Association, North Bengal Tea Producers’ Welfare Association and Nilgiri Tea Leaf Manufacturers’ Association across the country.

The day was celebrated in Biswanath by distributing tea and snacks at the Revenue Circle Office, District Commissioner's Office, District Superintendent of Police's Office, Biswanath College, district hospital and other places.

It needs mention here that International Tea Day is celebrated worldwide on 21 May every year. The day is celebrated by the member countries of the United Nations in accordance with the resolution adopted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on 21 December, 2019. The main objective of this day is to raise public awareness about the historical significance and history of tea and also to inform the people about the profound cultural and economic impact of tea around the world.

The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners of Biswanath, Rakesh Deka and Asim Borgohain, Additional Superintendents of Police Amit Kumar Hojai and Rupjyoti Kalita, Revenue Circle Officer Madhurya Parashar, Federation of Indian Tea Manufacturers’ Association members Dhiraj Sharma, Dwijen Saikia, Dipak Bora, former minister Prabin Hazarika, Biswanath College Principal Dr Chintamoni Sharma and others.
